Job Description

The Senior Systems Engineer will help drive and determine the systems infrastructure for Edge Technology Group and our numerous hedge fund clients - and will be integral to our firm’s ongoing success.  The appropriate candidate will fully utilize their demonstrated skills in designing, building and optimizing complex, state of the art systems, and applications to support our clients’ mission-critical business needs.  The Senior Systems Engineer will be a significant contributor to the design, implementation of our in-house and client systems infrastructure.

 

Responsibilities

Analyze overall client system requirements.  Ensure exceptional security, stability and effective integration with clients’ applications and infrastructure.
Provide expert knowledge and command of industry best practices- including fault-tolerant design, security and performance optimization for mission critical implementations.
Provide strong working knowledge of vendor market, product families and selection criteria- especially regarding systems virtualization and shared storage technologies and vendors. Keep current on new technologies and applications.
Design and build strategic projects for clients, including partial and complete refreshes of existing systems infrastructure. Oversee all engineering aspects of implementation to ensure IT projects are delivered on time and meet or exceed business expectations.
Inform project management of add-ons and items outside the Scope of Work on current projects and provide related document.
Assist in the development of proposals for new client projects.
Ensure incident tickets are closed on time and with high customer satisfaction.
Obtain and maintain required certifications for partnership with key vendors.
Provide a high level of added value to clients by leveraging the senior expertise that can guide clients around those pitfalls that experience has spotlighted.

 

Project Management and Process Improvement

Ensure IT projects are delivered on time and exceed business expectations.
Develop and apply auditing specifications to ensure technical integrity of the systems on a semi-regular basis.
Support internal Edge infrastructure improvements through development and application of capacity planning guidelines to the network infrastructure. Analyze reports and develop actions and recommendations.
Inform project management of add-ons and items outside the Scope of Work on current projects and document same.
Assist in the development of proposals for new client projects.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

Expert IT infrastructure and systems design and engineering. Deep knowledge of system resources in physical and virtual environments.
In-depth knowledge of the interdependencies/ links across various technologies comprising a state of the art systems infrastructure. 
Exceptional diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities, root cause analysis skills.

 

Technical skills must include:

Windows Server, versions from 2008 to 2016.
Strong Active Directory, including group policy expertise in management, configuration, and administration.
Shared storage and SAN development including, SAN design and administration, especially Nimble administration, Dell EqualLogic, and/or EMC technologies. Thorough knowledge of networking as it relates to Systems and iSCSI.
Strong knowledge of VMware Virtualization and vCenter technology, including a combination of: VMware vSphere and vCenter administration, VMware Horizon View, vCenter Operations Management, and/or vCenter Site Recovery Manager.  Understand performance optimization, balanced resources, integration of virtual environments into a shared storage environment.
Disaster Recovery design, implementation, testing, and execution. Expertise with data archiving, data backup, hierarchical storage management, including, traditional backup to tape, backup to disk, and cloud-based backup/data protection.
Experience with all aspects of systems and data security/ windows security, auditing.
Advanced DNS understanding regarding Windows and public DNS concepts.
Appropriate candidate must also have an appropriate mix of the following:
Exchange 2013/2016 installation, configuration and administration; Microsoft SQL experience and transact-SQL query knowledge; PowerShell, Perl, or other scripting technologies.
Experience with various Disaster Recovery and Data Replication solutions, with an emphasis on Zerto.
In addition, Incumbents must possess:

Strong analytical skills, as well as effective interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate and coordinate with all IT functions, business users and levels of IT and business management.
Ability to work independently at client sites while exercising effective business and technical judgment. 
Ability to transport themselves to various client sites as required, work overtime and be on call as required.
Willingness to contribute to the firm’s knowledgebase by helping refine and document workflow design, process  and implementation.
Inclination to share their knowledge and skills with other people within the organization. Be a team player- contribute to and learn from co-workers.

 

General Experience & Qualifications

10+ years of systems engineering experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar.

Certifications: MSCE, VCP

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds.   In addition, the employee may be required to sit at a desktop monitor for long hours and take phone calls.
